Kendal Wedding Photography

Cwmbran wedding photography in the Lake District!

When Shirley & Phil asked me to photograph their wedding in the Lake District I was delighted! How often is it that a wedding photographer from South Wales is going to get chance to visit the Lakes? I photographed their pre-wedding shoot at  Tintern Abbey about 6 weeks before the wedding when they were in the area visiting family, so that worked out nicely.

Helena and I travelled most of the way up to Kendal the night before the wedding. I don’t like to be too far away on the morning of a wedding, mainly as insurance against any unexpected problems. My philosophy being that if you’re not too far away then any logistical hurdles can be overcome. I’ve not had anything happen yet, but you can never be too careful!

We spent about 45 minutes taking some detail shots and bridal preparations at the house. Then it was off to St Mark’s Church in Natland to get a few portraits of Phil before the ceremony. The service was lovely, fortunately I was allowed to take some discrete shots at key moments. I always think it’s such a shame for the couple when there’s a complete ban on photography in the church, it’s them who miss out.

Following the ceremony we headed back to Kendal for the reception at the Castle Green Hotel. A beautiful location for any bride and groom, especially as we were blessed with some nice weather. We had a brilliant day and stayed right through until the first dance. Here are some of my favourite photos from the day.

Cowbridge Horse Portraits

Cowbridge Horse Portraits

A couple of weeks ago I headed off to Cowbridge for a portrait session with Dexter and his owner. The photoshoot lasted about an hour. This was just enough time to get a variety of different shots but short enough so that Dexter didn’t get bored. Having the photographs taken in his own environment was really important as it helped him to relax and enjoy the session. After a few shots in the field Dexter was ready to go and was a perfect model. I’m sure you’ll agree that he looks absolutely stunning. Around a week later Dexter’s owner came to the studio in Cwmbran to view the slideshow of images, she was thrilled with the results.

But even better than ALL of that, this photoshoot was FREE (worth £100) and also included a framed desk portrait worth £60. That’s because it’s my summer promotion. So that’s a free 1 hour photoshoot (worth £100) and a free framed desk portrait (worth £60). What’s not to like?

If you would like to book your session then call me now on 07899 891779 or send me an Email.

But be quick, spaces are strictly limited for this type of photoshoot. Here are a couple of my favourite shots from the session.

Park House Wedding Photography

Park House Wedding Photography for Susan & Ceri. I had the pleasure of being asked by Susan & Ceri to photograph their wedding. Following their pre-wedding photoshoot a month before the wedding we were all set to go on the day. We were fortunate to have a beautiful sunny day, so no need for umbrellas this time!

After shooting the bridal preparations and Ceri with his best man & ushers, the ceremony was held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cardiff. We then travelled the short distance to the Park House in Park Place. Both locations were perfect, with Park House being just across the road from the gardens in front of City Hall. Susan & Ceri had planned their wedding down to the last detail and thoroughly enjoyed their day, it was remarkable how relaxed they were.

Following their first dance it was time for me to leave them to continue the celebration, which was already well underway in grand style! Here are some of my favourite images from the day.

Olympic Torch Relay comes to South Wales

So this is it, the Olympic Torch Relay comes to South Wales!

On 25th May this year I had the great honour of being asked by John Harris to photograph him carrying the torch through Blaenavon. It was a stunningly hot day with bright sunshine. The torch had already entered Wales at Monmouth and travelled to Blaenavon via Abergavenny. The torchbearers for this leg of the journey were all assembled at Big Pit. When I arrived John was already there looking very smart in his official torchbearers white uniform.

The whole place was buzzing with the excitement of the event and awash with media. I was also with Cat Johnson, from i-com Solutions, we watched as John received his briefing and then interviewed live on BBC Radio Wales by Jason Mohammad. John was clearly loving every minute of his very special day.

After John’s media call it was time to board the bus and finally get hands on the torch! Something I didn’t previously realise is that each torchbearer carries their own personal torch. They are loaded into a special rack on the bus and numbered individually. John’s was number 055.

John had his family with him for support, this was clearly very special to John, made even more special because his family had not been able to be with him when he competed in the Paralympic Games. The relay itself was incredible, the sheer noise and excitement in the crowd was fantastic. It was a proud day for many people, perhaps the only time that many of us will ever see an Olympic torch. I loved every moment, here are a few pictures from the relay.

Wedding Photography at Peterstone Court

Here’s a quickie blog post from a job I did last year.

It’s all about Wedding Photography at Peterstone Court. Mairwen Mackintosh is the in-house wedding designer for Peterstone Court (near Brecon) and The Manor Hotel, Crickhowell. She gave me a call to see if I could take some photos of the beautiful rooms that she transforms for weddings.

I arrived at Peterstone Court, near Brecon, on a beautiful sunny day. The first thing that struck me was the incredible view of Pen-y-Fan and the rest of the Brecon Beacons, it is a truly stunning wedding venue. It’s rumoured that Charles I once visited the original site, and also companions of William The Conqueror. It’s a Georgian County House, complete with spa and leisure suite.

I set to work getting a great variety of photographs of the room including as many details as possible, mixed with lovely wider shots of the room itself. Mairwen offers a completely bespoke service to ensure that every last special detail is reflected in the finished room. Here are a few images from the portfolio I put together for her.

I have a wedding at Peterstone in December, maybe with some snow on Pen-y-Fan? Hope so! For a look at my wedding photography please see the Portfolio page and the Wedding Packages page for more information.

Maternity and Newborn photography shoot

Maternity and Newborn baby photography shoot

During December I was booked to shoot a maternity session at a clients home in Cardiff. Little did we know at the time that their beautiful baby would arrive quite so soon afterwards! The maternity images were only just edited by the time I headed back for the newborn shoot, so I thought it would be nice to present a few of the images as a combined blog post. Each shoot took around one hour in the familiar surroundings of the clients home. In that time we were comfortably able to get a wide variety of beautiful images that will last a lifetime.

Emma & Alex

Newport wedding photographer

I first met Emma & Alex back in 2009 when they were planning their wedding in Newport and looking for a wedding photographer. Following the bridal preparations we shot their wedding at the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Newport. Fortunately the hailstorm happened whilst everybody was ‘inside’ the church! The reception was held at The Old Barn Inn in Llanmartin, a lovely venue that dates back to the 1750′s.

It was a great day that absolutely flew by, Emma looked absolutely fantastic and the weather even did us a favour with the sun coming out for us in Llanmartin.

FASTER commercial photography

FASTER

FASTER contacted me for a commercial photography shoot as they were looking to refresh their bank of gym images. They also had plans to launch new websites and needed fresh images for that – so this was always going to be a big job! Katie had some fantastic concepts for shooting.

Working together we shot some equipment, gym interior shots and functional training with some of the personal trainers. We also had chance to shoot some more gritty urban portraits of the trainers using one light in the car park underneath the Baker St gym. We even made it to Regent’s Park on the second day for some outdoor functional training shots. And if things weren’t already busy enough… we also did some shots with John Tran for Ultra Fit magazine. It was a very hectic couple of days, but the results were well worth the effort.

Big thanks to Katie at FASTER for a great couple of days shooting.

The finished product can be seen on the FASTER PT website.

Here are a small selection of shots from the shoot. If you would like to discuss how I can create some fantastic commercial images for your business then please do not hesitate to call me on 07899 891779 or contact me by email.

Portraits in Tintern

Lizzie, Laura & Mike

As Lizzie was heading off to work in Canada the very next day(!) her Mum wanted to get some special portraits. I met Lizzie, her sister Laura, and brother Mike at their family home near Tintern, South Wales. They live in a lovely house with beautiful gardens, so we used a few different locations for some variety.

All three were really relaxed and we had some great fun during the shoot. Near the end of the shoot when they were relaxing in the conservatory Mike was challenged to try Lizzie’s herbal tea – he wasn’t too keen on it as you can probably see!
