Maternity and Newborn photography shoot

Maternity and Newborn baby photography shoot

During December I was booked to shoot a maternity session at a clients home in Cardiff. Little did we know at the time that their beautiful baby would arrive quite so soon afterwards! The maternity images were only just edited by the time I headed back for the newborn shoot, so I thought it would be nice to present a few of the images as a combined blog post. Each shoot took around one hour in the familiar surroundings of the clients home. In that time we were comfortably able to get a wide variety of beautiful images that will last a lifetime.

Emma & Alex

Newport wedding photographer

I first met Emma & Alex back in 2009 when they were planning their wedding in Newport and looking for a wedding photographer. Following the bridal preparations we shot their wedding at the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Newport. Fortunately the hailstorm happened whilst everybody was ‘inside’ the church! The reception was held at The Old Barn Inn in Llanmartin, a lovely venue that dates back to the 1750′s.

It was a great day that absolutely flew by, Emma looked absolutely fantastic and the weather even did us a favour with the sun coming out for us in Llanmartin.

FASTER commercial photography

FASTER

FASTER contacted me for a commercial photography shoot as they were looking to refresh their bank of gym images. They also had plans to launch new websites and needed fresh images for that – so this was always going to be a big job! Katie had some fantastic concepts for shooting.

Working together we shot some equipment, gym interior shots and functional training with some of the personal trainers. We also had chance to shoot some more gritty urban portraits of the trainers using one light in the car park underneath the Baker St gym. We even made it to Regent’s Park on the second day for some outdoor functional training shots. And if things weren’t already busy enough… we also did some shots with John Tran for Ultra Fit magazine. It was a very hectic couple of days, but the results were well worth the effort.

Big thanks to Katie at FASTER for a great couple of days shooting.

The finished product can be seen on the FASTER PT website.

Here are a small selection of shots from the shoot. If you would like to discuss how I can create some fantastic commercial images for your business then please do not hesitate to call me on 07899 891779 or contact me by email.

Portraits in Tintern

Lizzie, Laura & Mike

As Lizzie was heading off to work in Canada the very next day(!) her Mum wanted to get some special portraits. I met Lizzie, her sister Laura, and brother Mike at their family home near Tintern, South Wales. They live in a lovely house with beautiful gardens, so we used a few different locations for some variety.

All three were really relaxed and we had some great fun during the shoot. Near the end of the shoot when they were relaxing in the conservatory Mike was challenged to try Lizzie’s herbal tea – he wasn’t too keen on it as you can probably see!

Cwmbran Portraits – Grace

Grace

You might recognise Grace from the homepage of our website, she currently resides in the No.1 spot – Go Grace!

Despite it pouring with rain as I write this, I can assure you it was sunny and warm earlier this year. I met Grace and her Mum at the their house to start with some studio style shots with Grace. She loved having her portrait taken and was keen to try out lots of different fun poses. Following our laughter-filled session at the house we decided that some location portraits would be great, so after a quick change of clothes Grace was ready to head out. We had a great time trying lots of different shots and found a great woodland area to get some really beautiful images.

Here are a selection of my favourites. If you would like to discuss how I can create some timeless personal portraits for you and your family then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Newport Portrait Photographer

Family portraits in Newport

Earlier this year a father from Newport was looking for a Newport portrait photographer to get some great images of his two boys Marly and Archie. The idea was to capture the fun and character of them and create a stunning wall canvas as a surprise birthday present for their Mum. No problem, let’s go…

We chose to head down to the grounds of  Tredegar House, a 17th century Charles II mansion. With 90 acres of grounds we had enough choice of locations! After a steady start near the craft shops the boys started to enjoy having their picture taken, so we moved further into the park and the boys had chance to really have fun.

As usual, here is a selection of a few of my favourite images from the session. Please feel free to leave a comment. If you would like to discuss how I can create some beautiful personal portraits for you then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Tour of Britain

Steep hills and lots of lycra – Tour of Britain

Yesterday saw the much welcomed arrival of the Tour of Britain to Wales! The route of this race has not included Wales for a few years, so there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to get some shots of the riders. Being a spectator at a road race is a surreal experience, you arrive early to get a good spot and wait patiently, enjoying the build-up as the many support cars and police outriders pass through shortly before the helicopter and riders arrive….. and then they’re gone! A peleton of riders travelling at 25-30mph doesn’t take too long to pass you, all that’s left to do is pack up and try to find out who won. So with this in mind I headed for a steep section where they would at least be riding a little slower. Caerphilly Mountain was top of my list as it was the final climb of the day, the summit only being 5km from the finish.

I arrived just in time to abandon the car in one of the last available spaces on a grass bank, headed to a position just below the summit of the climb, and awaited the arrival of the riders in the glorious sunshine with hundreds of cycling fans.Blog Collage 1316091618223 Tour of Britain

It was fantastic to see the very talented Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) just ahead of race-leader Lars Boom (Rabobank). There was huge vocal support for the young rider from nearby Whitchurch. Geraint finished the stage in 12th place and remained in 2nd place overall, just 12 seconds behind Lars Boom.

Also featuring in this year’s Tour of Britain is Mark Cavendish (Team HTC Highroad). Cav is hot favourite for the 2012 Olympic Road Race, it was great to see him riding this event. Former national champion Roger Hammond (Team Garmin – Cervelo) rode well up Caerphilly Mountain eventually finishing in 64th place.

A great day on the mountain, let’s hope that the race organisers choose to come back to Wales next year!

Joseph’s first portraits

These portraits of Joseph were taken on his first birthday, I was fortunate that he managed to squeeze me into his tight schedule as he had some serious present unwrapping to do! He turned out to be quite the model, after some studio-style shots at his home in Newport we headed for the boating lake in Cwmbran, one of his favourite places! We had a great time during the shoot and Joseph was brilliant, here are some of my favourite shots from the session. Contact me here to book your portrait session.

Married – Joanne & Rhys

Here is the wedding of the very lovely Jo & Rhys. It was shot back in September 2010, but I didn’t have a blog then, so it’s had to wait!! The wedding was held in Cardiff at All Saints church, Llandaff North. Following the service we stopped off at Insole Gardens for a few photos before moving on to the Swalec Stadium for their reception.

New website

Welcome to the Gareth Huw Photography website and blog. It has been a very busy couple of months getting everything ready for the new business, but the arrival of the website and blog, courtesy of Richard Saunders is great news, now we can really get started!

Please take a minute to look around the website to understand a bit more about who I am, what I do and why I do it. I am a full-time professional wedding, portrait and event photographer based in South Wales, this is not a side-line business to supplement my income, this is what I do.

I hope you like the content of the site and that you find it useful. Whilst the site itself is now officially live the content is still under review, so I would welcome any feedback on your experience viewing the content, slideshows and blog.

Thanks for looking, I’ll be back later to add a wedding post.
